When names were solicited for Tokyo Tower, there seemed to be many suggestions such as:

・Peace Tower

・Showa Tower

・Japan Tower

The most popular was “Showa Tower” with 86,269 submissions.

However, in the end, it was decided to be “Tokyo Tower” based on the geographical name.

As a name for a tower that would become the world’s tallest, “Showa Tower” might have been too weak to make its name known to the world.
