Nezu Shrine, located 5 minutes from Tokyo Metro Nezu Station or Sendagi Station, is an old shrine said to have been founded in Sendagi by Japan Takeru, a military commander who built Edo Castle during the Bunmei era (1469-1487). The shrine was built by Dokan Ota, who is known as the founder of the shrine, and it was enshrined at its current location in 1706.
It is known as a shrine of good luck that survived the Great Fire of Edo, the Great Kanto Earthquake, and the Great Tokyo Air Raid, and is also famous for its azalea viewing.
The blessings are wide-ranging, from warding off misfortune and evil spirits to marriage, business prosperity, and academic achievement.
