  • Tokyo Tower

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yt5azoo7y0]

    Tokyo Tower

It is a comprehensive radio tower located in Shiba Park, Minato Ward, Tokyo. Its official name is Nippon Denpato.

Since its completion on December 23, 1958, it has been a symbol of Tokyo and a popular tourist spot.

The founder was Hisakichi Maeda, and it was designed by Naito Tachu, also known as Japan’s “Tower Doctor”.

The height is publicized as 333 meters, and it was completed at a total cost of about 3 billion yen, taking one and a half years and 219,335 workers.

It is a truss-structured radio tower with observation decks at 125 meters and 223.55 meters above the ground.

As a daytime obstacle marker, it is painted with alternating yellow-red and white colors from the top, and it transmits broadcast radio waves as a TV and FM radio antenna. It also transmits emergency signals as a protective radio antenna for JR East Japan, and various measuring instruments of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Environment are also installed.

Although it was the tallest structure in Japan when it was completed, it was the tallest in Japan for only about nine and a half years until June 26, 1968, when the Ogasawara Islands were returned to Japan and it was surpassed by the Minamitorishima Loran Tower and the Iwo Jima Loran Tower, and for about 11 years from the time the Omega Tower in Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture was dismantled until it was surpassed by the Tokyo Skytree.

If limited to self-supporting steel towers, it was the tallest in Japan for about 51 and a half years until it was surpassed by Tokyo Skytree, and is currently the second tallest structure in Japan after Tokyo Skytree.
